The Java Media Framework (JMF) 1.0 API specified a simple, standard programming interface for media playback in Java. The JMF 2.0 API, developed jointly by Sun Microsystems Inc. and the IBM Haifa Research Labs, extends the JMF 1.0 API by providing capture functionality; pluggable codecs, parsers, and renders; file saving; RTP broadcast; and the ability to access and manipulate media data.
