Virtualization - the science of creating multiple self-contained application environments on a single physical system -- is altering the way businesses manage computing resources. Virtualization is delivering on the promise of efficient utilization of servers and storage, better resource allocation, flexible application services, and lower costs.
But there are challenges. Moving to a virtualized environment isn't cheap. Application images need to be managed. Security is a challenge and application performance can suffer. And cross-vendor support for virtualized applications can be problematic. In short, the proliferation of virtual machines gave rise to a new breed of challenges - and challeging research is needed to tame them. IBM and HRL are doing pioneering world-class work in the area of Virtualization Management and Virtualization Infrastructure - and we currently have several openings. We welcome you to join us.
Requirements:
Candidates must have a solid background in software development and be familiar with the basics of software design. Systems experience, or a strong inclination to become involved in systems work, is essential. Experience with operating systems, storage technologies, virtualization and networking is advantageous, as is familiarity with Linux/Xen open source technoloies. Candidates should be able to work independently and be strong team players.
